Abstract
Cosmic rays consist mainly of protons with mean energies of about one GeV. The mean absorption depth for such a particle and the energetic secondary particles it produces is about a meter. Thus, meteoroids with dimensions of the order of meters or less are subjected to continuous cosmic-ray irradiation in space.
