Part of the book series: Lecture Notes in Economics and Mathematical Systems ((LNE,volume 94))

Summary

The digital control of the frequency and power exchange among several interconnected areas of a large power system is described. The main functions and algorithms are presented: the scanning of the input measurands, the calculations of area control error, the area controller algorithm, the setting of the reference values for the generating units with regard to the optimum economic operation, the static and dynamic limits and to the function of secondary control loops for generator output. Additional programs supervise the system as well as the generators and implement the daily interchange schedule automatically. Finally, the main features of future improvements to the dynamic response of the system are discussed.
