Abstract
Computer control of LD converter at Nippon Kokan has been in on-line operation since February 1962. This control had initially been based on the static control through calculation of blending and oxygen balance before blowing, as derived from the measurement and standardization of charge and blowing conditions. Along with the expansion of the range of melted grades and the resulting sophistication of blowing patterns, maintenance of static models has required too much labor, and this impaired the practical applicability of this process.
