Abstract

Let A be a symmetric transformation of an n-dimensional Hilbert space into itself and P the projection of that space onto the one-dimensional subspace determined by the normalized vector f. Our principal interest in this chapter is to investigate the spectrum of the operator

$$B = A + cP$$

where c > 0 is given.
