Histamine in the Brain: Importance of Transmethylation Processes and Their Regulation

  • Chapter

Abstract

The physiological role of histamine in most mammalian tissues is at present a subject of controversy. However, thanks to the sophistication of the methods employed to study its metabolism and actions, data which are consistent with the neurotransmitter (or neuromodulator) role of histamine in the central nervous system have been accumulating during the last few years.
