Abstract
In the Bet She’an Valley there are soils classified as red-brown solonetz-grumosols (Alperovitch and Mor, 1968) which until now have been considered unsuitable for cultivation due to the failures of every attempt to grow crops of any nature. The main reason is apparently the lack of adequate soil aeration, resulting from poor structure, which itself is due to high sodium content in the adsorbed phase, and perhaps also to a high percentage of exchangeable magnesium.
