This book attempts to abstract and discuss the literature directly concerned with the effect of hormones and hormone derivatives upon resistance. The theoretic interpretation of the underlying mechanisms, in particular the mobilization of enzymic mechanisms for defense, are still quite incompletely understood and will consequently receive much less meticulous attention. However, the true understanding of hormone-dependent resistance phenomena can only come through further exploration and clarification of the basic chemical mechanisms which in many cases are similar to, if not identical with, those underlying hepatic microsomal drug-metabolizing enzyme inductions by nonhormonal agents.
