Abstract

Up till some years ago tobacco smoke inhalation experiments with laboratory animals did not lead to tumor formation. These negative results were related to the deposition of particles in the area of the nasal passages or the deposition of too small doses of smoke constituents in the lower respiratory tract. This was one reason for carrying out again and again the testing of smoke constituents in subcutaneous tissue or on the skin.
