Abstract
Extensions of topological structures abound. In Chapter 1 we investigated the extensions βX and υX. Metric and uniform completions are also well known constructions, which, although not strictly topological, are similar. All satisfy a factorization property similar to the requirement that a mapping f of X to a compact space K extend to βX:
