Abstract
The extraordinary progress of biomedical sciences and medical technology during the last three decades and the application of the results in medical practice confront our societies with new ethical dilemmas. The number of books and articles in daily and professional journals bear witness to the importance of ethical questions and society’s preoccupation with them. The terms “ethics”, “health”, “medical ethics”, “bioethics”, and “health policy ethics” appear more and more often, and usually in confusing texts. Therefore, for a better understanding, it is useful to provide a brief description of these terms.
