Dynamics and Energy Transfer in Scattering of Xe, O2 and Cl2 from Graphite Surface

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Solid-State Sciences ((SSSOL,volume 121))

Abstract

The energy transfer processes in scattering of Xe, O2, and Cl2 from graphite (Gr) surface are studied by measuring the velocity distributions using a time-of-flight (TOF) technique. Angular and velocity distributions of scattered atoms and molecules were measured as a function of translational energy and angle of the incident beam as well as substrate temperature. Inelasticity and the degree of the energy transfer are discussed in light of the interaction potential and dynamics of the atoms and molecules involved.
