Abstract

Characteristics of the course of a disorder are of general prognostic value in terms of medical evaluation. Our knowledge of the statistical course of a disorder together with the individual previous history helps in predicting the future course and response to treatment. Psychiatry still lacks a classification based on pathogenesis, and for this reason, course is still used as a diagnostic criterion.
