Abstract
Liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic diseases, all of which are related to the diagnosis of jaundice, have already been discussed. Ultrasound examination of the jaundiced patient proceeds in a logical fashion. The first step is to decide whether there is dilatation of the biliary tree. Dilatation may exist at the level of the common bile duct, the common hepatic duct, the convergence of the right and left hepatic ducts, the intrahepatic bile ducts, or the gallbladder. The second step is to identify the exact level of obstruction, and, if possible, the obstructing lesion.
