Stereotaxic Map, Cytoarchitectonic and Neurochemical Summary of the Hypothalamic Nuclei, Rat

  • Chapter
Endocrine System

Part of the book series: Monographs on Pathology of Laboratory Animals ((LABORATORY))

Abstract

The topographical anatomy of the hypothalamic nuclei has been the subject of many fine books (Clark Le Gros 1938; Diepen 1962; Haymaker et al. 1969), book chapters (Bleier et al. 1979; Swanson 1987), atlases (Massopust 1961; de Groot 1963; König and Klippel 1963; Albe-Fessard 1966; Szentágothai et al. 1968; Pellegrino et al. 1979; Paxinos and Watson 1982; Swanson 1992), and review articles (Gurdjian 1927; Krieg 1932). (For additional references, see Palkovits 1983). Most of the maps contain coronal sections through the hypothalamus, but relatively few of them show comprehensive series of horizontal (Simson et al. 1981; Paxinos and Watson 1982) or sagittal (Paxinos and Watson 1982) planes.
