Zusammenfassung

Die Einleitung von Abwässern in natürliche Feuchtgebiete und Teiche oder auf ebene bis nur gering geneigte Flächen wurde bereits seit alter Zeit als Mittel zur Entsorgung angewandt. Eine solche Oberflächenaufbereitung erweist sich als überaus effektiv, solange die Einleitungen die Kapazität des aufnehmenden Systems zur Assimilation, Absorption und Entgiftung der vorhandenen Verunreinigungen nicht übersteigt (Bayer et al, 1989). In dem Maße, in dem die Weltbevölkerung anwuchsund sich zunehmend in Städten konzentrierte, wurde die Fähigkeit dieser Systeme, häusliche Abwässer zu bewältigen, rasch überschritten, wodurch der Bau großer Kläranlagen erforderlich wurde und der Anstoß zur Entwicklung moderner Aufbereitungsmethoden kam (Mason, 1991).
