Abstract
One of the key problems currently confronting the countries of Central and Eastern Europe concerns the need to improve and consolidate the ethical standards of economic activity. Thus, a Hungarian authority on ethics and economics, Laszlo Zsolnai, has noted that the conflict emerging between three basic components of social activity - morality, legality and legitimacy - has become especially important during this time of social and economic change (Society and Economy, 5 [1995]).
