Abstract
Modern medicine has fostered the development of unquestionable advances. Drug treatment of many illnesses, including hypertension and diabetes mellitus has brought renewed control and increased health to many patients. Pain treatment has provided relief from suffering and surgical techniques have provided previously undreamed of opportunities for recovery. The management of trauma, including immediate therapy, and both ground and air transportation has advanced strikingly since World War II. The treatment of severe burns has led to markedly increased survival.
