Abstract

The natures of the photoinduced absorptions observed in halogen-bridged mixed-valent platinum complexes (so called MX chains) are still controversial. In order to shed the light there from the theoretical side, we investigate lattice relaxations that occur after photoexcitations and yield nonlinear excitations. First of all, we point out the possibility that there are various types of relaxation processes depending on the parameters of the system. Then we focus on several typical cases and show potential surfaces to illustrate how the relaxation proceeds to the destination. Lastly, we compare the calculated absorption spectra with those found in the measurements of photoinduced absorption and discuss their origins.
