Efficiency of Laparoscopy in Treatment of Acute Small Bowel Obstruction Caused by Adhesions

Peritoneal Adhesions

Abstract

Adhesions and bands are amongst the most frequent causes of acute small bowel obstruction. They often result from previous operations or inflammation. In many cases ileus is caused by single bands, leading to obstruction and strangulation. This can be treated by simple cutting with scissors or scalpel. In these cases conventional laparotomy itself can result in further bands or adhesions and furthermore seems to be a complicated approach to solve a simple problem.
