Ultrasonography of the Bile Ducts

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Medical Radiology ((Med Radiol Diagn Imaging))

Abstract

Ultrasonography (US) is a primary tool in imaging of the hepatobiliary system. It is a reliable technique, whether in assessing the size of the bile ducts or in evaluating the liver, structures at the porta hepatis, gallbladder, or pancreas. It can be performed in any patient; there are no contraindications since no contrast material or radiation is required. Moreover, it can be performed rapidly and it may be repeated as often as necessary.
