Abstract

The field of tissue engineering has demonstrated tremendous potential for the development of cartilaginous implants. Prior to human applications, research needs to be directed toward defining the characteristics of the human chondrocytes, especially their potential to proliferate and generate differentiated tissue of adequate mass to replace significant defects.
