Abstract
Measurements of the energy states of a quantum system, whether a nucleus or an atom, are impossible without a thorough knowledge of the eigenvalues of the associated Hamiltonian. Some of the simple systems described in Chaps. 3 and 12 lead to analytical solutions, which, despite their elegance, are far from representing the general case.
