Hemodynamic and Cardiac Effects of Nisoldipine in Ischemic Left Ventricular Dysfunction
The use of calcium antagonists in patients with left ventricular dysfunction remains a controversial issue, largely because of evidence of reflex neurohormonal activation and of worsening of congestive heart failure symptoms during their administration [1–5]. However, the negative results observed with some calcium antagonists such as nifedipine or diltiazem [4, 5] are balanced by more promising observations with amlodipine and nisoldipine [6, 7]. In these studies, the calcium antagonists were well tolerated and there was evidence of an improvement in left ventricular ejection fraction or diastolic filling as well as in exercise capacity.
