Vaskulär bedingte kognitive Beeinträchtigung und Demenz

Zusammenfassung

Obwohl vaskuläre Demenzen schon seit mehr als 100 Jahren bekannt sind, diagnostiziert und wissenschaftlich beforscht werden, sind viele Fragen weiterhin offen. Sehr bezeichnend für die Unklarheiten und Uneinigkeit, die auf dem Gebiet zerebrovaskulär bedingter kognitiver Leistungseinbußen herrschen, sind die Titel zweier kürzlich erschienener Übersichtsarbeiten zu diesem Krankheitsbild: Vascular dementia: persisting controversies and questions (Moncayo u. Bogusslavsky 1996) und Vascular dementia: still a debatable entity? (Loeb u. Meyer 1996). Bis heute existieren für die vaskuläre Demenz keine verläßlichen und validierten Diagnosekriterien und ihre Epidemiologie ist noch immer unklar. Zahlen zur Prävalenz und Inzidenz weisen extreme Streuungen auf und verschiedene Studien miteinander zu vergleichen ist schlicht unmöglich.
