Zusammenfassung

Eine Vielzahl von Untersuchungen hat gezeigt, daß psychisch Kranke zu einem beträchtlichen Prozentsatz von gleichzeitig bestehenden körperlichen1 Erkrankungen betroffen sind. Nach einer Metaanalyse der Literatur liegt dieser Anteil bei etwa 50% (Felker et al. 1996); diese Zahlen beziehen sich auf alle Begleiterkrankungen, unabhängig davon, ob sie in einem ursächlichen Zusammenhang mit der psychischen Störung stehen oder ob es sich um ein zufälliges Zusammentreffen handelt. Von wesentlicher klinisch-praktischer Bedeutung ist dabei, daß es sich häufig um undiagnostizierte Leiden handelt. Nach verschiedenen Schätzungen sind bis zur Hälfte der Erkrankungen zum Zeitpunkt der Zuweisung zu einer psychiatrischen Institution nicht bekannt (Koranyi u. Potoczny 1992; Röhr et al. 1996).
