Abstract
Sheep breeding is the most important branch of animal rearing in the Central Asian republics, and so it is of vital importance to control desertification by restoration of pastures. The Desert Institute through researches over many years has established sure ways of maximizing sustainable desert use. They work closely with farming authorities and farms. Detailed advice is given on how to cultivate pastures in desert soils including the optimal sowing ratio, types of seeds, sowing methods and phytoreclamation of pastures. The pastures are divided into various types: piedmont, sandy, clay, gypsum and artificial pastures.
