Abstract
Water in the Central Asian republics is scarce, and much of the old hydro infrastructure is antiquated and unsatisfactory. The Desert Institute has addressed the pressing problem of water treatment and developed inexpensive and effective, new devices. Of central importance in this work has been the testing of new sorbents to absorb the water pollutants. These portable units have been able to meet the enumerated goals set both for ordinary households and for industrial purposes.
