Abstract
After detailing water statistics for Central Asia and the problems of increasing usage, the question of drainage water recycling is addressed. Central to this is the extent and kind of salinity. The use of the sodium adsorption ratio is explained. The results of experimental schemes in Central Asia including the affects on plant yields are listed along with environmental dangers and antidotes. Details of a new technology developed by the Desert Institute are given and contrasted with a similar scheme in Arizona. Finally the cost estimates for a pilot project are calculated.
