Abstract

Historically, suture repair of incisional herniation has been beset by complications. These have included hematoma, seroma, sepsis, evisceration, dehiscence, and recurrence. Whereas evisceration and dehiscence have been all but eliminated by the introduction of figure-of-eight permanent sutures [1] and their facilitation by continuous, single-layer mass suturing, the incidence of recurrence remains too high.
