Zusammenfassung
Die Thematik „Biotechnologie und Gentechnik“ hat in der öffentlichen Diskussion eine zunehmend größere Bedeutung bekommen. Der Biotechnologie wird eine Schlüsselrolle bei der Erschließung neuer Technik- und Anwendungsfelder sowie eine zentrale Rolle bei der Verbindung von verschiedenen Technikbereichen prognostiziert. Das Thema kann exemplarisch für viele Themen aus dem Bereich moderner Industrieentwicklung stehen, die mit Aktualität, Gesellschaftsbezug und Zukunftsbedeutung einer Behandlung im allgemeinbildenden Schulsystem harren. Seine besondere Bedeutung erhält es dadurch, daß die Gentechnik direkte Eingriffe am menschlichen Genom erlaubt und somit ethische Grundfragen berührt werden. Nicht zuletzt ist das „Selbstverständnis“ der Personen als Individuen davon betroffen.
