Abstract

In 1991 the Danish and Swedish governments agreed on constructing a fixed link across Øresund between Copenhagen and Malmö. The Fixed Link consists of a combined twin track railway and a four-lane motorway. Travelling from Denmark to Sweden, the fixed Link’s key elements are an artificial peninsula, an immersed tunnel under the Drogden navigation channel, an artificial island south of Saltholm and a bridge over the Flintrännan navigation channel. The construction works began in 1995 and the Fixed Link is expected to be completed in 2000.
