Abstract

Urethral cancer accounts for less than 1% of all cancers occurring in women, but represents the only genitourinary cancer that is more common in the female population, with a female to male ratio of 4:1 (Joyner and McDougal 1997). It is more prevalent in Caucasians (88%) than in African Americans (12%), except when associated with a urethral diverticulum (Narayan and Konety 1992). Urethral cancer is primarily a disease that occurs in the sixth and seventh decades of life; however, extreme age ranges have been reported in the literature, from 25 to 90 years (Narayan and Konety 1992; Mayer et al. 1987).
