Shape-Memory Implants in Spinal Surgery: Long-Term Results (Experimental and Clinical Studies)

  • Chapter
Shape Memory Implants

Abstract

Anterior fusion of the spine is the most common surgical technique for the severe fractures and diseases of the spine. It provides correction of the deformity and fixation of the injured spinal segment. It is generally accepted that anterior fusion of spine should be followed by the internal fixation of the bone graft to prevent its dislocation and bony block formation between adjacent vertebral bodies. It allows early ambulation and rehabilitation so that many severe complications can be avoided.
