Abstract
The two major variants of malignant lymphoma are non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and Hodgkin’s disease. About 40,000 new cases of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and 7500 new cases of Hodgkin’s disease occur each year in the United States. The incidence of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma has increased rapidly in the last few years. Malignant lymphomas are the most common neoplasm in patients between the ages of 20 and 40 years. Thus, although the total number of patients is relatively small, malignant lymphomas rank fourth in the total number of person-years of life lost to cancer.
