Abstract
Because of managed health care and other economic changes in this area, it is no longer possible to consider numerous different imaging procedures for the solution of a particular problem. In the economic arena of health care, many modalities, such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), sonography and nuclear medicine procedures, are becoming competitive rather than complementary. The time has come for nuclear medicine to be promoted for the functional, physiologic, and biochemical capabilities of its radionuclide procedures and to make clear that it is distinctly different in diagnostic capability from the mainly morphologic radiological procedures.
