Zusammenfassung

Bei der Diagnose einer schizoaffektiven Störung denken wir an eine Störung, die eine Mischung aus schizophrenen und affektiven (depressiven oder manischen) Symptomen darstellt. Bemühungen, die Grenze zwischen Schizophrenie und affektiver Störung festzulegen, führten zu einer Reihe von Begriffen, um diese Patienten einordnen zu können. Bisher jedoch ist keine der vorgeschlagenen Definitionen auf allgemeine Akzeptanz gestoßen. Die Aufnahme des Begriffs der schizoaffektiven Störung in das DSM-IV (APA 1994) hat zu einer erheblichen Verbesserung der Situation geführt und gestattet es nun Klinikern und Forschern, einheitliche Definitionen zu verwenden. Doch trotz dieser schriftlich festgelegten Kriterien gibt es weiterhin widersprüchliche Meinungen darüber, wogenau die schizoaffektiven Störungen zwischen den Hauptkategorien Schizophrenie und affektive Störung einzuordnen sind.
