Zusammenfassung
In den vorhergehenden Kapiteln wurden einzelne Schadstoffe behandelt, die Schäden bei Pflanzen, Tieren oder an Sachgütern verursachen. Es wurde z.B. dargelegt, daß eine Beeinträchtigung der Wasserqualität durch saure Niederschläge indirekt für den starken Rückgang der Süßwasserfischvorkommen in einigen Gebieten verantwortlich ist. Es gibt jedoch eine ganze Reihe von Umweltproblemen wie etwa die neuartigen Waldschäden, die nicht auf ein einziges Schadgas, auf saure Niederschläge oder auf Luftverschmutzung allein zurückgeführt werden können. In vielen Fällen spielen mehrere Faktoren zusammen.
