Abstract
Although the brain functions as an integrated unit certain areas have a major influence on specific functions, hence the search for features in the history or on clinical examination that may have localizing significance. Such evidence remains the ‘gold standard’ for differential diagnosis, otherwise only a somewhat unsatisfactory diagnosis that there is ‘something wrong with the brain’ can be advanced.
