Zusammenfassung

Die Inzidenz des Asthma bronchiale wurde 1984 für die Gesamtbevölkerung mit 1,0–9,9 % angegeben (Siegenthaler et al. 1984), wobei in den zurückliegenden 20 Jahren eine Zunahme chronisch obstruktiver Erkrankungen der unteren Atemwege zu beobachten ist. In den USA wurde in dem Zeitraum von 1977 bis 1986 eine Verdopplung der an Asthmaerkrankungen verstorbenen Patienten festgestellt.
