Abstract
Chapter 5.5 presented a sensitivity analysis concerning the change of steady convective motions with increasing Rayleigh number. The gradual increase of Ra was only possible up to a certain limit. When Ra was increased beyond that limit, there were difficulties in obtaining a steady situation. In figure 5.9 there is no value for the Nusselt number of the one-cell branch for Ra =500, because a steady state could not be reached in the numerical simulations.
