Zusammenfassung
Die Kernspintomographie ist ein heute in der Orthopädie vielfach eingesetztes Verfahren zur bildgebenden Darstellung von Veränderungen des gesamten Bewegungs- und Stützapparates. 1946 beschrieben Bloch und Purcell (zitiert nach Peters et al. 1990) die Tatsache, daß Atomkerne mit einer ungeraden Anzahl von Protonen einen sogenannten Kernspin aufweisen, der am ehesten mit der Drehung einer Kugel veranschaulicht werden kann (Abb. 14.1). Die Rotationsachsen dieser Kugeln sind willkürlich im Raum verteilt. Durch ein starkes Magnetfeld können diese Achsen einheitlich ausgerichtet werden. Wird das Magnetfeld wieder ausgeschaltet, fallen die Achsen in ihre ursprüngliche Richtung zurück und senden dabei ein schwaches Signal aus. Dieses Signal wird aufgefangen. Da im menschlichen Körper die unterschiedlichsten Atome in den unterschiedlichsten Verbindungen und physikalischen Zuständen vorliegen, geben diese auch unterschiedliche Signale ab, die aber für gleiche Gewebe gleichartig sind. Aus diesen Signalen wird schließlich ein Bild des menschlichen Körpers und seiner Strukturen rekonstruiert. Dies gelang erstmalig Damadian 1977 in einer Untersuchungszeit von fast fünf Stunden (zitiert nach Peters et al. 1990). Danach machte die Kernspintomographie rasante Fortschritte und fand sehr bald als bildgebendes Verfahren in der Medizin weite Verbreitung.
