Excitation of Atoms by Multiply Charged Ions

  • Chapter
Atomic Physics with Heavy Ions

Part of the book series: Springer Series on Atoms+Plasmas ((SSAOPP,volume 26))

Summary

A review of recent studies of excitation processes in collisions of atoms with multiply charged heavy ions is presented. Special attention is given to the excitation mechanisms in various energy regions and to the scaling properties of the cross sections with respect to the ionic charge and electron transition energy. Problems related to the further understanding of excitation mechanisms in the low-energy region are discussed.
