Abstract

Generally, the monomers for radical polymerization are vinyl or vinylidene compounds. They afford the polymers which consist of a carbon-carbon single bond main chain through the normal addition polymerization mechanism. However, some monomer groups can rearrange during the propagation step, such as ring-opening reaction, ring-closing reaction, and atom or group transfer reaction [1]. Consequently, from these interesting monomers, unsaturated multiple bonds, ethers, ketones, esters, or miscellaneous functional groups can be produced on the main chain of the polymers.
