Abstract
The importance of intermolecular interactions such as dispersion, adhesion, wetting, friction and molecular recognition for the behavior of a range of polymeric systems has been recognized for a long time. The recent development of various techniques that enable the measurement of these forces in liquids has provided considerable insight into the nature of these forces and into the physics of polymeric chains Important evidence of theoretical predictions for polymer systems has been obtained. In this chapter some typical results obtained are reviewed, though this is not intended as a comprehensive list.
