Physiological Consequences of Dietary Restriction: An Overview

Biological Effects of Dietary Restriction

Part of the book series: ILSI Monographs ((ILSI MONOGRAPHS))

Abstract

The early studies on food restriction focused primarily on its ability to extend the life span and to retard age-associated disease processes (Weindruch 1985). Not until the 1970s was there a major emphasis on the effects of food restriction on physiological processes and on age changes in these processes.
