Abstract

Cross sections were measured for the 47Ti(n,p)47Sc, 48Ti(n,p)48Sc, 48Ti(n,α)45Ca and 50Ti(n,α)47Ca reactions over the neutron energy range of 5.4 to 10.5 MeV using the activation technique of special interest was the (n,α) reaction on 48Ti where the soft ß- emitting product (45Ca) was separated radiochemically and measured via low-level counting. From the measured isotopic data and systematics the helium emission cross sections for neutrons on natural titanium were deduced. Integral cross sections were measured for 46,47,48Ti(n,p)46,47,48Sc processes with 20 and 25 MeV d(Be) breakup neutrons. The data are compared with spectrum averaged cross sections deduced from recently determined excitation functions and neutron spectral distributions.
