Abstract
Considerable effort has been and continues to be spent in the redesign of educational systems. It is argued that problems of society can be attributed to a narrow definition of education as it is currently perceived. This paper examines the need for an understanding of both the shortcomings and contribution of current education as the basis for undertaking systems design.
