Lumbaler Bandscheibenvorfall — Konservative oder operative Behandlung?

Zusammenfassung

Als Beginn der operativen Behandlung des Bandscheibenvorfalls wird zumeist das Jahr 1934 angegeben. Zwar wurden Spinalkanaleröffnungen bereits um die Jahrhundertwende herum vorgenommen, aber zumeist unter der Fehldiagnose eines „Spinalen Tumors„ [1, 21, 28]. Erst 1934 beschrieben Mixter und Barr die Entfernung einer „Diskushernie„ und erkannten damit durch den operativen Eingriff das pathomorphologische Korrelat von Bandscheibendegeneration und Lumboischialgie. In den folgenden Jahren war die Bandscheibenchirurgie mehrfach geprägt durch ein Auf und Ab zwischen euphorischer Zustimmung und weitgehender Ablehnung.
