Erkrankungen, die mit chronischer Entzündung oder mit Autoimmunprozessen einhergehen, weisen ein erhöhtes Risiko für die Entwicklung der Osteopenie oder einer sekundären Osteoporose auf: z.B. die chronische Sinusitis, die rheumatoide Arthritis, chronisch entzündliche Darmerkrankungen, oder der Diabetes-mellitus-Typ-1 (Antonelli et al. 1992, Ziegler 1992, Scharia et al. 1994).
