Hyaliner Knorpel besitzt nur eine eingeschränkte Fähigkeit zur Regeneration und Reparatur. Dies steht in engem Zusammenhang mit einer fehlenden Vaskularisierung, einer begrenzten Teilungsfähigkeit der Knorpelzellen und einer geringen Anzahl von chondrogenen Zellen in der Knorpelmatrix.
